Functional Breathwork

"The missing pillar in health is our breath, it all starts there.” James Nestor.

The way in which we breathe has a profound effect on both our physical and mental health.  Our fast paced and busy lives can unknowingly lead to patterns of dysfunctional breathing.  By learning to breath functionally you can become more resilient to stress, improve energy levels and enhance overall health.

Some of the benefits of functional breathing include

  • Decreased breathlessness

  • Improved sleep

  • Increased blood circulation

  • Stimulation of the vagus nerve (a key player when it comes to the body’s rest & digest system) increasing our resilience to stress

  • Reduced anxiety

  • Increased oxygen delivery to the cells in the body & the brain.

  • A calmer mind

  • Improved focus and concentration

Are you breathing functionally?

If you experience any of the following, you may be a dysfunctional breather:

  • You breathe through your mouth rather than your nose

  • Are noisy breathing

Having an understanding of this will help you to become aware of the interplay between your breath and your unique nervous system.
